"Happy birthday papa." Claudia sighed as she gently placed a white buttertruff flower on her father's grave. A tear escaped from her eyes and fell on the tombstone. Her heart overflowed with greif.
It was her father's birthday, it was also one day before he died four years ago. She didn't understand why fate took her father's life at the youthfull age of 38, but it had. Her father had died because of an epidamic that was rampant in their modest little village Pegasum, named after the famous Lake Pegaso. Nobody knew exactly, what caused the rare disease to spread, or frankly what it was. Thousands of people died, including her father. Claudia was left to face life with only her darling mother, Lena.
"Claudia, is that you." Said a familiar, gentle voice. She turned around to find her former schoolmate, Derick.
"Hi Derick." Said Claudia surprised to find him there. She studied him for a minute. He was wearing jeans, a white t shirt and a brown jacket. His hair was all messy and his pale skin was smudged with dirt. But his olive green eyes still had the same intensity that drew her to him two years ago. But now he was just a friend, nothing else.
"Hey, I see you are visiting your dad's grave. Its his birthday right. You look like you could use a hug." He said sympathetical. Claudia wasn't sure but she thought Derick liked her too. She still wondered.
"No, I'm good for now Derick."She said with a giggle, but her smile faded away as she turned her attention to her dad's grave. She blew a small kiss in the sky's direction hoping it would reach her father. She turned around and saw Derick standing closer to her than she remembered.
"Hi again."She said with a giggle taking a step back.
"Hi." He said smiling brightly. "I have news for you."
"News what news?" Claudia brushed her brown bangs away from her face and fixed her two favourite pins that she always wore.
"Ok here goes... guess who is going to Alfea? YOU! Claudia!" he said practically jumping with excitement.
"What!"she screamed in ecstasy. "How do you know?!"
"Your mom asked me to tell you. I was out biking when she caught me."
Claudia couldn't believe her ears. Finally! She was going to get away from her life for sometime, while she learned to control her powers and become a better fairy ofcourse. She hadnt smiled, really smiled from the heart ever since her father had died. She would go to Lkae Pegasus everyday to watch the sunset and remember all the good times she spent with him. Today, she was smiling from the depth of her heart and soul. Her beautiful blue eyes widened as she rememebered she had to help her mother.
"OMG! I just remembered I have to help mom with gardening! Got to go Derick. See you around." She said running off in a hurry.
"I hope so."He said with a hearty chuckle.
She reached her home in the blink of an eye. Her mom was busy working on their garden where they grew vegetables which they sold in the local market.
"HI honey,"said her mother in a cheerful tone. "Guess who's going to Alfea!"
"I know!"beamed Claudia.
She started helping her mother pick oranges from the tree. Later that evening Claudia and her mother enjoyed a hearty, special dinner. A modest one it was but special nonetheless. They had chicken stew with rice and a watercress salad. Her mother helped her pack. She was going to Alfea tommorow! Claudia couldnt get over that! Her mother watched her daughter smiling vbrantly and her heart filled with joy.
"Oh Claudia, you havent smiled so brightly ever since your father died." Said Lena wrapping her arms around her daughter.
"I miss him mama." She said returning the hug.
The two cried in each others arms in his fond memory.
"Well I think that's all the drama I can take" said her mother with a chuckle.
"Yeah, me too." Claudia pulled away and resumed packing. Her mother kissed her forehead and wished her goodnight.
"Don't be up late."She called out from down the hall.
"I wont." Claudia took out a picture of her dad, mom and herself on a family picnic at lake pegasus when she was nine. She hugged it and then put it in the suitcase.
She couldn't sleep all night as she thought about all the adventures she was going to have at Alfea. She would meet so many people and make so many friends. She got up at the crack of dawn to find her mother in the kitchen preparing her a special breakfast. The two had breakfast and Claidia went to the train station by ten. As she boarded she heard someone call out her name.
"Bye Claudia!"
She whirled around and saaw Derick making his way over to her.
"Bye Derick!" she waved with a chuckle. She went into the train. She could feel butterflies in her stomach. She took a good look at her village from the window.
"Bye Pegasum" she whispered. "Till we meet again. I hope I will be an enchantix fairy by then"
The train started. The chugging noise blocked all other sounds from the outside. Her heart raced. She was going to soar in the sky soon. This was her life and she was going to make it a darn good one.
"Bye mom. I'll miss you."
